In this EZX for EZdrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3, session drummer Jeremy Stacey (Sheryl Crow, Robbie Williams, Sia, Ryan Adams) hand-selected four kits from his extensive collection—each capturing a unique sound and a defining moment in the evolution of drums. Spanning the 1960s through the 1990s, the kit captures the unmistakable character of each era in stunning detail: from tight, muted, and punchy to open, loud, and thunderous.
Teaming up with their brother Paul—an experienced engineer, producer, and instrumentalist who has worked with bands such as Oasis and The Black Crowes—they chose Livingston Studios in London, UK, as the ideal location for the project. The space, seemingly designed for transparent drum recording, possessed the necessary sonic qualities to highlight the essential elements: the drums themselves. To further highlight the unique characteristics of each kit, the Stacey brothers used period-specific equipment and microphone placement, giving each kit a distinct sound tailored to its time.
In addition to the kits themselves, this EZX also includes a collection of grooves for each kit, as well as a wide palette of ready-to-mix presets showcasing various approaches. As always, use these presets for a straightforward, ready-to-mix sound—or fine-tune them using macros.
From the warm, round and subtle sound of the 1960s, the open and fusion-oriented sound of the 1970s, the bombastic, arena-style approach of the 1980s, to the rough, hard and powerful sound of the 1990s, this EZX not only offers you a carefully curated palette of kits, but also gives you insight into the history of drum sound.
