Signal Chain. How We Got
the Tascam 424 Sound. Inspiration:
The Voyager-424 is inspired by the Tascam Portastudio 424, a 4-track cassette recorder that uses magnetic tape as its storage medium. Press the button gently, and you’ll hear the warmth and compression of magnetic tape—natural, analog, and slightly rounded. Press harder, and the sound begins to deteriorate: harmonic distortion increases, transients soften, and the signal distorts in a way only tape can. This is the saturation module, the character of which changes depending on the pressure you apply.
Roland VG-8 Inspired
Voyager-8:
Voyager-8 is inspired by the Bowed Pad presets from the Roland VG-8, a 1995 guitar synthesizer that used COSM modeling to create tones unattainable with a traditional guitar. The Bowed Pad preset transforms a guitar signal into something synthetic and cosmic: a slow attack, long sustain, and a shifting sound character reminiscent of a cross between a string ensemble and a synthesizer. The Voyager-8 replicates this same transformation, creating a sound that blends electronics with acoustics.
Creative Reverb:
Voyager-Verb.
A rich reverb that adds spaciousness without losing the sonic character. As it fades, the reverb dissolves into harmonious, warm, and subtle distorted tones, creating the sensation that the sound is emanating from the actual room rather than being processed.
A chorus and flanger combo:
Voyager-Mod.
A chorus and flanger combo based on classic 80s tones. The wide, shimmering modulation from classic outboard gear is nostalgic and rich, but not too pedal-like.

The idea for Voyager came to us when we were obsessed with Mk.gee’s guitar tone. We endlessly studied his chain and turned it into a universal plugin. It can be used for more than just one tone. All four modules have their own unique sound, but they can be used for synths, keys, vocals, drums, and anything else. Voyager takes a signal and sends it into space.
