Many people believe that Sonokinetic’s distinctive sound is magnificent and static as we fill the space for recording with many talented players and phrases with layers in our specially developed Kontakt engines. However, sometimes it’s great to talk about things for a more personal feel, and that is exactly what we did with Indie. The style of these intimate ensemble phrases originates from modern television drama, a boutique film and independent video games with a naked and individual sound.
This time it was not enough to record smaller versions of our strings, woodwinds and brass ensembles, so we also supplemented them with a huge selection of melodic percussion phrases. For the first time, phrases for string quartets were included, ideally suited for overlapping with other ensembles to bring back focus to your compositions. The general emphasis here is on the lightest touches, from delicate violin duets and solo clarinet to glissandi harp and softly played hammers.
In fact, melodic percussion deserves special mention, since we made sure to catch all the subtleties and wonders of these instruments, including a concert cymbal with rare samples, similar to cymbals with a unique sound. The dreamy melodic textures we composed for Indie were delicately played by our performers in the same space as other ensembles. Marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, vibraphone, molehills, piano, celesta and concert harp bring an intense personality to the collection.
We felt that indie recordings were well suited to the playback engine, which we originally debuted with Noir, our jazz-loaded section library. This means that each of the 12 preset keys contains one performance. Such phrases make it easy to combine melodies and harmonies and hear how real-time performances intertwine with each other.
The randomization function also makes a long-awaited return, which triggers twelve additional phrases with each click. There is also the possibility of randomization for each orchestra section, or string quartet, string ensemble, woodwinds, wind quintet or melodic percussion.
