Quantastical Sound STRANG 2 v2.5.5 is a unique synthesizer that takes a single oscillator and passes it through a convolution filter in real time as you play. This means the filter is part of the voice, not the sample that is activated. The filter changes depending on the note, so repeated notes sound different rather than identical.
A Living Classic of Subtractive Synthesis
It all started with a single oscillator and a year of trying to create something more organic than a traditional subtractive synthesizer. What pushed this project forward was the use of real-time convolution for each voice. This gave the sound volume, making it part of the sound itself rather than a sample triggered on command.
Now the oscillator has company: a shadow layer, a subwoofer, a string model, and SPARKLE. These components were added to get closer to the sound heard in the mind, and they all feed into the same chassis.
