Tape56K is based on the same mathematical principles as the Motorola DSP56K-based studio gear since 1990. It’s modeled after the Lyrec TR-533, a 2-inch, 24-track tape machine that became the standard for session engineers. This is the fourth PAA Audio plug-in we’re most proud of. We’ve condensed it into a single TAPE control. No menus, no settings. The TAPE control compensates for the input drive, so you can press hard on the pedal without blowing the mix bus—the natural volume of the tape remains intact, which is exactly the sound you’re looking for.
Tape56K is built on the same mathematical foundation as the Motorola DSP56K-based studio hardware since 1990. It’s modeled after the Lyrec TR-533, a 2-inch, 24-track tape machine that became the standard for engineers working on every project. This is the fourth PAA Audio plug-in we’re most proud of. We’ve packed it into a single TAPE knob. No menus, no settings. The TAPE knob compensates for input drive, so you can press hard on the pedal without blowing out the mix bus—the natural loudness of the tape is preserved, precisely the sound you’re looking for.
What does it do to your mix
- More musicality — the digital edge gives way to something that breathes and moves with the music.
- More volume, but in the right direction — the perceived level increases without sacrificing transients.
- Instruments fit into the mix noticeably better — drums, vocals, and bass stop fighting for space and are locked into place.
- The sound is complete — the difference between a bedroom mix and a recording. One knob.
- Turn it on, and the mix is glued together. Turn it off, and you miss it.
Why do producers buy it
? ——————–
- One knob = no decision fatigue. Set it, forget it, print it out.
- True hardware digital signal processing, no samples or menu digging.
- Works with everything—individual instruments, drum bus, mixer bus, and master bus.
Where it’s especially good
- Drum Boos — Kicks and snares no longer conflict, the boom becomes part of the mix.
- Mixer Boos — Stereo coherence without transient decay.
- Master Boos — Subtle saturation that works on any system.
- Vocals — Instant richness, without blurring.
- Synths and pads — Analog patina that fits like a glove.
- Bass — Fundamental richness without losing its snap.
Controls: TAPE (drive + character), MIX (dry/wet). Input/output gain controls (±24 dB) with stereometry and peak limiting are locked by default, allowing you to boost the input signal without changing the bus level. Activation via license file — single-user, lifetime updates, no online verification.
