Felt 54 is a felt piano with a lot of character. This is not your average bright and harmonically complex piano. Sampled from a 1975 Yamaha U3 felt piano, modified to make the sound cleaner while maintaining harmonic richness. A
0.8 mm felt strip was added between the hammers and strings, and the timbre of the piano’s midrange was simplified by muting two of the three strings per note. The instrument was captured with three microphones, resulting in a very deep stereo image.
Felt 54 covers a range of 54 notes, the sweetest range of this piano.
