The APU Loudness Compressor plugin is a compressor/expander designed for to support modern volume types (LUFS, True Peak). Typical compressors operate using only rms and/or peak units. But technology has come a long way since then, and it’s time for us to upgrade.
This compressor uses the modern standard LUFS units to provide a much more transparent response that relates to how people actually perceive loudness. It’s not just a superficial difference, the entire signal flow of the compressor operates within this more precise understanding of loudness.
The pluggable user interface provides a more flexible alternative to the traditional threshold and ratio compressor control style. Instead, you can adjust the source and target volume ranges, and the compressor will either compress or expand as needed.
The real-time visuals are based on handwritten OpenGL fragment shaders, providing beautiful iterative graphics that give you a detailed view of how the compressor affects your dynamic range.
