We often use objects around us to imitate real instruments, which are often made up of combinations of different materials. This got us thinking; why not simply use one type of material to create new sounds?
We love a good challenge. That’s how Elements came to be.
This set presented its own challenges, particularly when it came to constructing the drums. Water itself doesn’t resonate like wood, so we had to strike specific containers that would allow the sound of running water to pass through rather than suppress it.
Elsewhere, tonal sounds would have been too difficult to extract from our recordings, so we ultimately selected the most unique sounds as IR samples and grain samples in Madrona Labs Kaivo.
Despite our best efforts, we managed to preserve the sonic identity of water while still creating highly usable samples. These sounds are unlike anything we’ve heard, and certainly not like what’s currently available in most sample packs.
