Created in collaboration with media composer and arranger Joachim Horsley, Joachim’s Piano is a one-of-a-kind sample of his lovingly restored 1890s Steinway B, including real piano, preparations, percussion and effects.
Over 35 hours of studio time were spent recording the precise piano, space, and microphone setups used in “Via Havana” and Joachim’s YouTube video series. Chromatic samples of up to 4 round measures are used to provide rhythmic feedback on the instrument. All patches were sampled with and without the full sustain pedal.
Historic Piano The
source piano for the samples is a Steinway Model B, an 85-key piano built in the 1890s that has recently been (beautifully) restored. The vintage timbre and response are perfect for Joachim’s playing style, but the sampling was tailored to suit a variety of applications, from live jazz to media composition.
