The Recordist – M60 Machine Gun HD Pro (WAV)

Introducing the M60 Machine Gun HD professional sound effects library, a multi-channel collection of 129 WAV tracks recorded in 24-bit 192 kHz and 24-bit 96 kHz. The M60 is a belt-mounted machine gun that fires the 7.62 mm (.308 Winchester) NATO round commonly used in larger rifles. This collection used the M60 – M60E3: an updated lightweight version adopted in the 1980s. The M60E3 was introduced around 1986 in an attempt to solve the problem with earlier versions of the M60 for infantry use. This is a lightweight, “improved” version designed to reduce the load on the shooter.

The gun was recorded three times. There were two shoot and foley sessions and one additional foley session. All fouls were recorded outside as the gun was most likely used in that environment. The first shot captured mid- and long-range perspectives from many positions in mono and stereo. The second shoot captured close-ups and mid-range shots in mono and stereo to complete the collection. All aspects of the weapon’s operation were recorded, including single and multiple burst firing, mechanisms, handling and bullet belt actions.

This extensive collection includes 96K mastered and processed sounds and, as a bonus, original raw sounds recorded at 192K resolution from two Sound Devices SD-702 and Fostex FR-2 recorders. Over 500 individual sounds have been carefully arranged and time-stamped with full metadata embedded. Also included are photos from the sessions and a list of sounds in PDF and Excel format.
