Grammy nominated music producer Taiko (Nicolás Jaña) was born in Buin, Santiago de Chile. He started making beats at the age of 15, reaching the ears of Black Koi Ent. Sky Rompiendo in 2019 via Instagram. Rompiendo later invited him to join the label. Taiko sounds now appear on Bad Bunny’s “Una Vez” featuring Mora, “Easy” Jhay Cortez and “Rojo” J Balvin.
By the age of 11, having heard reggaeton throughout his youth on the streets of Chile, on the radio and on TV, Taiko decided he wanted to be a DJ. He started mixing in Virtual DJ and about two years later downloaded FL Studio and made his first beats.
However, Taiko never focused on just one genre. His works are built on three main pillars: minimalism, texture and atmosphere. When he turns on reggaeton, he usually starts with a tune meant to take you to another place, and then overdubs a reggaeton bass line to set the rhythm. He also likes to use the genre’s classic drums, modernizing them with various processing techniques.
You’ll hear these elements and more in Taiko’s first Splice kit. He hopes that you will use these sounds to experiment and create new sounds, a new interpretation of reggaeton or a completely different genre.
