With the 259e, the answer is pretty confusing. The Buchla 259e Twisted Waveform Generator – the coveted dual oscillator module now available for the Softube Modular – is the first officially licensed plug-in version of the Buchla product. While the device can be used for traditional synth patches, its unusual internal workings allow the Buchla 259e to deliver superior metallic, cold, harsh, digital and creaky sounds.
The Warped Signal Generator is one of the many complex and mysterious Buchla modules. To be honest, I did not expect the digital version to be able to convey all the richness of this individual device. But Softube, surprisingly, caught everything I had imagined about the oscillator so far. The Twisted plugin is now an essential element of my Buchla + Computer Morton Subotnick usage
