In 2012, we introduced the D2O microphone preamplifier. With a unique combination of solid-state electronics and miniature tubes, D2O offered a versatile sound palette that appealed to musicians and engineers. Parts availability and manufacturing costs became an issue, so we discontinued D2O after ten years.
Today our D2O preamp returns as an audio plugin. We used neural networks and artificial intelligence to capture the soul and nuance of D2O, a departure from traditional circuit modeling. Our approach delivers rich sound, enhanced by advanced features such as slanted EQ, high pass filter (HPF) and mix control – enhancements that original equipment could not offer.
What sets this plugin apart is its ability to span sonic extremes – from soft warmth to aggressive richness – making it a versatile tool for enhancing a wide range of sources, including vocals, guitars, drums and even the mix bus. Running in real-time on the processor, this plugin redefines the digital audio landscape, giving producers and engineers the ability to infuse their projects with the legendary warmth of D2O without hardware limitations.
You can use lower gain settings to achieve a warm sound. To achieve more saturation, simply raise the gain control. If the saturation gets too intense, you can tone it down with the mix control. To further enhance the richness of D2O, raise the Input knob and lower the Output knob. Fine-tune your signal with the high-pass filter and slanted equalizer. For example, most electric guitars benefit from a high-pass filter.
