In addition, there are warped loops designed by award-winning engineers and a huge steam-powered synth.

To create a great movie scoring tool, you need to go where the best movie soundtracks are recorded. London’s AIR Studios was founded by Sir George Martin, the legendary producer often referred to as the “Fifth Beatle”. AIR’s Lyndhurst Hall has been the first choice of Hollywood directors for many years, and countless blockbuster soundtracks have been recorded there – The Lord of the Rings, Interstellar, Justice League, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean – the list goes on. The Albion ONE Orchestra was recorded by award-winning engineers using world-class equipment: priceless ribbon and tube microphones through Neve Montserrat preamps, the world’s largest Neve 88R console and onto the purest 2″ tape, then converted using best-in-class Prism A/D converters at 96k. No expense was spared to record this collection exactly as it would be for the film.

The 109-piece orchestra
The original concept for Albion was simple – it was to have everything you need for a film soundtrack in one complete product. Spitfire Audio has gathered 109 of London’s finest musicians, who regularly perform on Oscar-winning film soundtracks and major concert performances around the world, and recorded them performing a variety of techniques: short notes, long notes, tremolo, pizzicato, etc. Each of these techniques is recorded in note ranges and sections (brass low, mid and high, wood high and low, and strings), giving you the flexibility to program and perform your orchestral composition with complete control.

Legato and Mic Positions
Albion ONE features Spitfire Audio’s signature legato articulations, which combine adjacent samples for maximum musicality, and passages where a signal note triggers the recording of a section playing phrases.

In terms of microphone placement, there are four options (close, tree, outriggers and ambient) to suit the style of music you’re writing and the scale you want to achieve. You’re also provided with the popular ‘ostinatum’ builder, which allows you to instantly create exciting, tense or action-packed rhythmic passages.

Darwin Percussion Ensemble
What about the drums? Most film soundtracks will benefit from some kind of rhythmic accompaniment. From subtle undertones to full-blown mega-hits, Albion ONE has everything you need to build your soundtrack on a solid foundation. Also recorded at AIR’s Lyndhurst Hall, Spitfire Audio brought together some of the biggest drums in London. From high sticks to low taiko and toms, plus newly added Easter Island hits, some in parts and some solos have been recorded with some blockbuster style drums thrown in for good measure. To round things off, Jake Jackson, Spitfire Audio’s experienced head engineer and AIR Studios resident, adds power with his superb mixes.

All of these samples are available via the Kickstart engine, an interface that makes it easy to match and perform drums in your DAW of choice.

Brunel Loops
In addition to the single hits in AIR Studios, Spitfire Audio have recorded hundreds of raw and distorted loops from the original recordings made in the Spitfire Audio studio featuring percussion powerhouse Paul Clarvis (Spectre, The Dark Knight, Harry Potter, Star Wars). Brunel Loops is a module based on the powerful eDNA engine – the perfect tool to process your music. It allows you to distort, sequence, affect and mix two input sources, all in sync – meaning there are endless possibilities when it comes to creating loops that sound completely your own.

Stevenson’s Steam Band
The latest Albion ONE update includes 100 new Stevenson’s Steam Band presets, created by Spitfire Audio founders and composers Christian Henson and Paul Thomson.

Alongside this, the recorded orchestral material has been pushed to the absolute limit – everything you can imagine has been done to it. It’s been pushed, pulled, stretched, squeezed and smashed; Spitfire Audio have processed it using everything from priceless vintage outboard motors to crappy guitar pedals
