The dizi is a Chinese transverse flute made of bamboo. A special feature of this instrument is the additional hole between the emblem and the rutracker finger holes. A membrane with fine wrinkles, called “dimo,” is glued over this hole, and it results in similar sounds. The louder the dizi is plaued, the more the dimo responses, making the instrument brighter and louder, and adding harmony that gives the tone a buzzing, nasal quality.
