BIG AL is a two stage tube saturator that offers a wide palette of wonderful sonic flavors emanating from the interactive network in its transformer preamplifier and power amplifier. Unique analog hardware, based on brand new circuitry and authentic 1930s NOS components, has been specially designed for this plug-in.
Freak Filter
BIG AL frequency shaping starts right in the EF9 preamp stage. The Low control is implemented as a Baxandall filter that allows you to adjust the saturation intensity around 100 Hz in additional combination with boosting or cutting bass at the same time.
The High knob is an additional equalizer band located in front of the preamp tube. Its peak filter boosts or cuts high-frequency content around 10 kHz, which is important to incite or tame the aggressive potential of BIG AL.
Onboard Mods
The Jumper Matrix provides access to the basic BIG AL circuit: the emphasis shifting, low frequency compensator, and voltage drop provide powerful capabilities for making complex distortion profile changes on the fly by inserting or pulling out a few simple plugs.
The final highlight is added by the AL4 power pentode and its output transformer, which are heated by the preamp stage. Result? Truly great harmonic richness that will always sound organic, musical and bold.
