In the golden age of analog recording, most albums were made with the entire band playing in the same room at the same time, and recorded through a mixing desk onto analog tape. This resulted in instruments leaking between microphones, and as for guitar tones, they produced a less direct sound than what became common after the digital revolution, with most instruments tracked separately and in complete isolation.
