Who would have thought that the short-scale, violin-like electric bass would become the foundational bass tone for much of The Beatles’ repertoire? With its sharp attack and smooth sustain, this small bass provides all the low-end content needed to build the music, as well as the rich sustain needed for melodic, catchy bass lines.
Speaking of melodic, the sustain has a slight bloom, likely due to its hollow body construction rather than the solid body found on most electric basses. Although it is undoubtedly an electric bass, this feature gives the note form a slight acoustic quality.
The Evolution Vintage Violin Bass delivers this highly coveted sound with the familiar high level of detail you’ve come to expect from our Evolution series. The library covers both picked and fingerpicked playing, with open and partially muted combinations of both, as well as other articulations. We recorded the neck and bridge pickup signals separately, giving you control over their combination for additional tonal flexibility. The neck pickup delivers warm, rich bass, while the bridge pickup adds brightness and clarity.
We developed this library in collaboration with Rosewood Recording Company, one of Utah’s most respected recording studios. Guy Randle, owner and engineer at Rosewood Recording Company, used analog audio equipment to expertly shape and highlight the rich tonal qualities of the bass. The Evolution Vintage Violin Bass includes both the recorded signal and the enhanced signal.
Evolution Vintage Violin Bass is based on our Evolution engine, which offers a wealth of features: a flexible mapping system, adjustable instrument parameters, and ease of play, as well as a comprehensive collection of built-in effects for adding the final clarity to your bass sound. If you’ve used any of our guitar or bass libraries using the Evolution engine, its interface and workflow will be very familiar.
The library includes numerous ready-to-use factory presets for a variety of bass tones, many of which are inspired by the classic pieces that originally made the bass guitar famous.
