The Evolution Mellow Mando samples were recorded using a pristine 1917 A-style mandolin. Its tone is remarkably rich and expressive, as you’d expect from an instrument crafted over a century ago. When sampling the mandolin, we meticulously captured its full dynamic range. When played softly, you hear the light, airy sound of the pick sliding across the strings, while when played loudly, you sense the instrument’s rich, woody sustain.
Of course, the choice of instrument is only part of the story. The mandolin was crafted by Ryan Tilby, a talented multi-instrumentalist with decades of experience. Ryan’s artistry played a crucial role in the recording process and ultimately contributed decisively to the authenticity and expressiveness of the resulting virtual instrument.
Known for his broad palette of sounds and styles, Ryan Tilby is a sought-after session musician and has charted on Billboard with five solo albums. During his years touring with Capitol Records, Ryan performed at Telluride, Merlefest, FanFest, RockyGrass, and countless other music festivals across the United States. He also toured Europe numerous times. Ryan’s music has been featured on Duck Dynasty, the Discovery Channel, and Outdoor Photo Adventures.
The instrument was sampled at Rosewood Recording Company, one of Utah’s most respected recording studios. Guy Randle, owner and engineer at Rosewood Recording Company, used analog equipment to skillfully shape and enhance the mandolin’s rich tonal qualities. Evolution Mellow Mando includes both the recorded signal and an enhanced signal, which can be mixed to suit your tastes.
