Vocal textures. Introducing Liminal: Vocal Textures Volume 1, a library of vocal samples. Articulations are expressive and evolving, and the performer brings character and movement to each sample. The performers were recorded using large-diaphragm condenser microphones, which captured the breath and characteristic intimacy in each sample.
The library is well suited to introducing unpredictability and creative imperfection. Liminal’s range isn’t designed for fast passages or soaring melodies. Instead, you can think of the library as a collection of naturalistic pads that offer a humanistic detail that’s not found in anything derived from synthetic sources. Some articulations place a strong emphasis on rhythm and timing, taking advantage of Kontakt’s Time Machine Pro feature.
The UI allows articulations to be layered, mixed, and reversed. Low-frequency control can be enabled, allowing the tempo of your DAW to determine the volume modulation of an individual layer. This opens the door to tempo-synced swells and provides even more creative possibilities for evolving textures.
Sample banks can be triggered either through the UI or via key switches. There’s also a so-called “dynamics” knob that controls the gain of the entire instrument independently of the instrument-level volume control. Finally, there is functionality for instrument-level ADSR control, which can optionally be switched to a traditional articulation-level ADSR control.
